Karadzic failed to appear in court for 1st day of trial

Radovan Karadzic failed to come to court for the first day of his trial on 11 counts of criminal offenses against genocide and humanity.

The judges were infuriated by his lack of appearance in court and Prosecutor Hildegard Uertz-Retzlaff claimed that Karadzic used a form of manipulation towards the court case in stepping over the legal proceedings to give the extended trial he wants.

“He also says, as soon as I am prepared, I will be happy to inform the trial chamber and office of the Prosecutor a few weeks in advance. In other words, the trial can only start if the accused says it should,” Uertz Retzlaff said.

Karadzic was accused of killing 8,000 Muslim males in a 1995 massacre, and one mother of Srebrenica, Kada Hotic stated she was “furious and disappointed” at the events that took place today.

“Do they realize people are waiting for justice? This is our last and only hope to see a bit of justice,” she said.
