The Material Girl just can’t get enough of Malawi.
Madonna’s construction for a girl’s school began this weekend when she returned to Malawi and shoveled the first ceremonial mound of dirt at the site, which is just outside the nation’s capital of Lilongwe.
The Raising Malawi Academy for Girls will be located in Chinkhota village and will offer admission to 500 girls from all of the country's 28 districts, said ABC News.
Construction of the project is said to cost $15 million.
The country is overtaken with an AIDS epidemic which has left over a million children orphaned, so girls can now look forward to an establishment that grants them more opportunities.
"If this school is a success—and God willing, it will be—we will replicate it not only in Malawi but in other parts of the world as well," said the singer.
Madonna, who already has adopted two children from Malawi, is following in the footsteps of other well known humanitarians such as Oprah Winfrey and Angelina Jolie.
The school is expected to open its doors in 2011.
