Pirate Bay closure starts increase in file-sharing

Swedish website Pirate Bay is one of the top file-sharing sites with BitTorrent tracks.
Since its brief closure in August however, there has been a 300 percent increase in file-sharing sites, reports NME.
"Once it was temporarily shut down, those people still wanted the torrents so they went elsewhere, and that meant lots of other sites popped up to take advantage,” said Greg Day, a McAfee security analyst. “We saw a 300 percent increase in sites hosting and distributing movies and software."
McAfee’s third quarter report stated that torrent files on Pirate Bay were relocated to similar sites during its closure, making it just as easy for users to continue downloading illegally.
This situation helps contribute to the long debate of whether or not the internet can be regulated and how a concentrated effort to stop file-sharing can backfire.
