The surviving members of Sublime have been ordered to stop using the name, reports AllMusic. Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh have been ordered by a California court to cease and desist.
Sublime recently played the SmokeOut Festival with 21-year-old Rome Ramirez, who replaced frontman Brad Nowell. Nowell died in 1996 of a drug overdose.
According to the judge, the band known as Sublime ended when Nowell died. Another band called Sublime LBC has contested Sublime’s right to play under that name. The band had successfully won the right to play under the Sublime name, despite objections from Nowell’s estate.
