Noriko Sakai, a Japanese actress and singer who starred in the Japanese 2003 version of The Grudge 2, was convicted of drug use on Monday, reports the Associated Press.

Sakai was sentenced by the Tokyo Police District to 18 months in prison, suspended for three years, for using and possessing drugs. More than 3,000 people hung around the courthouse waiting for the verdict.

The actress was arressted in August after her husband, who was involved with the stimulant drugs, claimed that she was also part of the scandal. A verdict is yet to be announced for her husband, Yuichi Takaso.

The scandal has created an uproar in Japan and damaged the actress' reputation. Sakai's commercial deals have been canceled, as well as her record deal with Victor Entertainment. Japanese authorities are also going to crack down on the entertainment industry and increase investigations.
