According to USA Today, Va’Shaundya O’Neal, the wife of Cleveland Cavaliers center Shaquille O’Neal, filed for divorce in Los Angeles on Monday. Her court filings indicate that she is seeking spousal support, child support and full legal custody of the couple’s four children, although a specific amount of money was not mentioned.
She moved from Florida to California, where there is a substantial and lucrative upgrade in the community-property divorce law in comparison to her prior area of residency, and claimed residency just one day before filing for divorce. People.com is reporting that Shaquille O’Neal attempted to divorce from Va’Shaundya O’Neal two years ago over endless allegations from his wife that he had been hiding money from her.
The divorce comes after rumors circulated throughout the media over the past week about an affair that Shaquille O’Neal has allegedly been having with the fiancée of Washington Wizards All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas for the past five years. The rumors surfaced at TheBigLead.com and HoopsWorld.com when sexually-themed e-mails that were exchanged between O’Neal and Arenas’s fiancée, Laura Govan, were displayed on the Internet.
According to Young Black and Fabulous’s official Web site, Laura Govan and Va’Shaundya O’Neal had been friends with one another. Va’Shaundya O’Neal’s court filings indicated that she and her husband, Shaquille O’Neal, married one another back on December 26, 2002.
