A Secret Service officer allowed a couple into the White House dinner without any verification of identification, that was in honor of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, on Tuesday, a law officer told NBC News on Friday.
The couple identified as Tareq and Michaele Salahi, were not on the guest list and the officer who let them slide by assumed they would be checked in at the next checkpoint, NBC reported.
The Secret Service announced that it may search the couple for criminal purposes. “As this moves closer to a criminal investigation there’s less that we can say,” said Jim Mackin, agency spokesman for White House.
He added, “I don’t want to jeopardize what could be a criminal investigation. We’re not leaving any option off the table at this point.”
Michaele Salahi’s hairdresser, Peggy Ioakim told CBS, on ‘The Early Show’, on Friday, that Michaele “was so excited. She told me that she got it in the mail and it was just an amazing feeling and they couldn’t wait and in fact they called the White House…”
