Rob Zombie Announces Release Date for Hellbilly Deluxe 2

After multiple delays that pushed back the release date over a year, Rob Zombie has announced that his fourth studio album Hellbilly Deluxe 2 will be released Feb. 2, 2010.

Recording for the project had wrapped as far back as late 2008 but conflicts with his label over promotion and his directorial work on Halloween II kept the album waiting for a proper release.

The record, an obvious companion to Zombie's debut offering Hellbilly Deluxe, marks the first time Zombie has recorded using exclusively his touring band (featuring John 5 formerly of Marilyn Manson), rather than various studio musicians. He comments, "I've always had a revolving roster of studio and touring musicians, but the three guys in my band now have been on tour with me for years. ...It's called Rob Zombie, but we're treating it like a band."

Zombie will kick off his Hellbilly Delux 2 tour next Thursday, long before the release of the record, but he is confident fans will enjoy the new music. Reactions to Zombie's stripped down production during the Educated Horses tour had been largely unenthusiastic, but the horror-movie director has assured that the new tour will return again to lavish and theatrical performances that defined his early career. He remarks, "The stage feels very fresh, very modern, very high-tech. It has the spirit of that first show."

There have also been rumors that this may be Zombie's last CD release. The artist has frequently expressed his doubt that physical CD sales will pick up again, stating "All you will have left is digital downloads." Consequently, numerous comic book artists have been tapped for Hellbilly Deluxe 2 "to contribute some killer new ZOMBIE art for the booklet. These three masters have added an awesome edge to the CD package that I'm sure you will love." Among them are Alex Horley (of DC and Image comics), Dan Brereton, and storyboard artist David Hartman.
